An internship or volunteer position at MENDING HEARTS gives you the opportunity to help women in need and allows you to earn valuable work experience in your field. You will be exposed to all aspects of a non-profit organization as well as the stories of women who are healing through our program. The most important thing you can take away from this experience is to know you have made an enormous difference in the lives of women in the community as a whole.
Women’s Life Coach Internship- This Intern will have a compassionate heart and love interacting with our clients. You will assist them in job hunting online, tutor them in computer use, research, resume writing, help them set up an email account. You have the creative freedom to come up with art projects to do with the ladies, group ideas, etc. You will spend one on one time helping them set goals and being there to guide them through the starting over process. You will learn about case management, counseling, alcohol and drug abuse, and community resources. At times you may be asked to assist the executive director, case manager, or staff. This internship requires a 6 month commitment and hours are flexible. We will log your contact hours for you to use toward future goals and you will receive an impact letter from the women you work with. Upon successful completion, you will receive a letter of reference.
Fundraising Internship- Intern works in any/all aspects of fundraising projects. This can include weekend community outreach campaigns, annual banquets, golf tournaments, raffles, bake sales, etc. The main goal of the fundraising committee is to obtain in-kind donations and sponsorships from the community. A large part of your focus will be interacting with businesses and organizations through phone calls, street outreach, or through email campaigns. You will research grant or scholarship opportunities online and send leads to your supervisor. This internship requires a 6 month commitment 8-10 hours a week. We will keep a track record of your donation-fundraising success that you can use for future positions and you will receive a letter of reference upon completion.
Internet Marketing Internship- Intern will create and maintain social websites such as my space, facebook, twitter, and other social networking sites. Our integrity and mission should be upheld in all aspects of these sites and will only accept comments related to our organization. The marketing intern will filter all emails, leads, etc….and send the contact and info to the appropriate MENDING HEARTS staff member. Our goal in internet marketing is to reach out to community organizations for women who might need assistance. You will also research event opportunities online and send leads to your supervisor. This internship requires a 3 month commitment but hours are flexible. We will keep a log of your hours and a track record of your internet campaign success for future positions. Upon successful completion, you will receive a letter of reference.
Journalism/Public Relations Internship- This intern will uphold a professional appearance and go to community events, marketing events, etc to educate the community about Mending Hearts, Inc. You will communicate directly with media, gain press coverage for events, and maintain a good relationship with the press. You may write press releases under supervision and submit them to publications. This is a good internship for a Communications major, but open to any and all student interns. It requires a 6 month commitment and flexible hours. You keep copies of any/all publications written, you will make valuable connections in the community for future goals, and you will receive a letter of recommendation upon completion.
